What is Notarisation?
If you need to sign a legal document for use outside of the UK, it usually has to be notarised. The Notary Public checks your identity to ensure that you are the person entitled to sign the document. In the UK it is the notarys duty to be certain that you fully understand the nature and effect of the legal document you are signing.
One of the most frequent documents needing to be notarised are Powers of Attorney; closely followed by making certified copies of various certificates.
You may need a Notary Public ...
To certify identity
In connection with company and commercial transactions
To prepare or witness a Power of Attorney
To certify copies of educational or professional qualifications
When buying or selling foreign property.
To sponsor relatives from aboard
In connection with travel documentation and work permits.
To prepare a letter of consent allowing a child to travel without both parents
When adopting children
If emigrating from the UK or getting married outside the UK
Witnessing events and transactions
Statutory declaration witnessing for making a pension claim,
• or proof of being alive... an affidavit of loss
Arranging translations
Certify copies of translations, passports, birth certificates, death certificates
... grants of probate when claiming inheritance overseas ...
